Access Statement
External Access
The cabin is approached off the farm drive (not tarmaced), with vehicle access through a large wooden gate onto a gently sloping hardcored area. There is a large area for turning vehicles. The main access to the cabin is up a small flight of steps (with a handrail). However, anyone with access difficulties can access the property by using the veranda, which has ramp access, and entering through the patio doors. There is a small step over both the thresholds. Please let us know if you have any problems with access to the building and we will assist you as appropriate.
Internal Access
The cabin is restricted in size. While it is not cramped, there is not adequate space for wheelchair users. Anyone who requires a wheelchair or mobility aid when outside but who is mobile in their home can access the cabin. For those who are able to walk short distances and use facilities unaided, the cabin is fully accessible. The log cabin is all on one level with no internal steps, so it is accessible throughout by most people, although some areas would be too small for great assistance to those who need help with their mobility. It is possible to recharge wheelchairs and other electric mobility aids in the living room. The cabin is blessed with very large windows and so all rooms have ample natural lighting.
Kitchen, Dining And Living Area
The kitchen, dining and living areas are open plan and all on one level. The area is a large rectangle, split into two. The kitchen and dining area share one half of the room with the living area taking up the other half. The kitchen is an L-shape in one corner of the room with the cooker sited in the middle of a run of cupboards. The oven door opens downwards. The kitchen worktops, sink and cooker are not at reduced heights. There are wall-mounted cupboards. There is a full size fridge freezer with the fridge on the top. The dining table and chairs can be moved to aid access. The table is extendable. The living room consists of two sofas, two cane chairs, TV and video stand and bookshelf. The TV and video have remote controls. There is a non-slip floor covering in the kitchen. There is a large loose rug on the floor in the living room. This is largely anchored by the two sofas.
Bedrooms
Access to the bedrooms is along the hallway. There are loose rugs on the floor in the hallway, with non-slip backing. Other than one wicker chair and the fire extinguisher in the widest part of the hallway, there are no obstacles placed in the hallway. The side of the beds closest to the bedroom doors have most space for access. The bedroom sizes are restricted in space, so there is a narrow access to the far side of the bed, along by the window and radiator. The beds are full-size double beds (4’6” wide). There are two drawers under the beds. The wardrobes are easy to open. These have hanging rails with a shelf above. The bunk bedroom is smaller than the main bedrooms. The bunks occupy half of the room from end to end. There is a short tallboy with short hanging space and drawers. This is easy to open. There is a loose rug on the floor.
Bathrooms
The main bathroom is off the hallway, immediately outside the living area. This has a shower over a bath, a washbasin and toilet. There are no mobility aids in the bathroom, but there is room for some assistance. There is a non-slip covering on the floor with loose bath mats. One of the double bedrooms has an ensuite bathroom. This has a shower cubicle, which has a step up into it. There is also a washbasin and toilet. There are no mobility aids in this bathroom and there is limited space for assistance. There are loose rugs on the floor.
Please Note
Service dogs are very welcome.
If you have any special access requirements, please discuss these with us at the earliest opportunity to enable us to help you enjoy your stay. If the loose rugs cause a particular hazard / obstacle to you, please let us know and we will be happy to store them away.
